  * Beginning this week two new file servers will bring the SIMTEL20 software
archives to Europe in a timely manner. For the past few months these
archives have only been available from LISTSERV@RPICICGE, putting something
of a strain on network links at times. Limits have been set on the amount
of data a person can request in one day, but some larger files may take
days to make it across the network. For those of you on "the East side of
the Pond", the following servers have been created:

PCSERVER@BANUFS11 - This server provides access to a limited and selected
portion of the SIMTEL20 public domain archives. It should be considered as
a measure to relieve some of the burden on SIMTEL20 and RPICICGE from which
or through where the archives have been retrieved. The archives available
on PCSERVER are those for which the UFSIA academic community have requested
for possible use. The local policy for downloading files determines what is
available on the server. This policy states that first of all "human
readable" files should be extracted to make possible an evaluation of the
needs the software could cover. This explains why the greater part of the
collection consists of -catalog, readme and -doc files.

PCSERVER only accepts interactive commands (not mail). For more information
send the command HELP. Thanks to Michel Daulie for this information.

TRICKLE@TREARN - This server provides the SIMTEL20 files, and directory
listings, with its own cache, where it keeps its most recently requested
files. If a file that you request already exists in the cache directory,
then you may expect to receive your file within a few minutes. If the file
requested does not exist in the cache directory, then TRICKLE will have to
order the file. If this is the case, the response time of TRICKLE is
dependent upon the list server from where the file is requested. TRICKLE
will give up waiting for a file after five days after its request. For more
information, send the /HELP command to TRICKLE via interactive message.
Thanks to Turgut Kalfaoglu for this update.

*NOTE* Users in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Mexico should not use
these servers. LISTSERV@RPICICGE is your SIMTEL20 server of choice.
Likewise, if you are on a European node which can only send commands to
servers via mail, you must continue to use LISTSERV.
